Brett Van Aalsburg
Brett thinks, then acts, though not always in that order. He can often be found physically manipulating objects for some purpose or another, and he occasionally enjoys doing so. Which is a good thing, because he feels a deep compulsive need to constantly create things. In addition, he rides a bicycle everywhere, tries to have a good sense of humor about life's small tragedies, and believes very strongly in the ability of people to power their own movement. And by that he means he thinks you should walk.
Blake Morris
Blake Morris is invested in people potential and the pursuit of the bodily limitations. He is not invested in the stock market. Blake finds self promotion to be tiresome, and would rather just be walking. He finds walking to be the intersection of the visceral and intellectual, contributing to an atmosphere of artistic action that depends equally on experience and analysis. Moreover, he considers walking to be the lifeblood of society. Walk. Please Walk.
Kaitlyn Bergfeld
Not long ago, Kaitlyn decided she wanted to pursue loftier goals in life and no longer needed to clutter the world with advertising. She packed up her life, sold her car, and moved to New York. Currently, she is doing graduate work in emergency management, where she hopes her talent, time, and skills will be put to use bettering people lives. Also because she finds destruction fascinating. Why is she walking? She thinks the more important question is why not walk?
Nicholas Herbert
Nicholas Walker Herbert, at the tender age of 5, walked around Angel's Island in the San Francisco Bay without a single complaint and kept up with all the adults. His middle name Walker comes from his maternal great grandmother's maiden name, and he lives up to the name everyday. Nicholas is also an active playwright and theatre artist and gets most of his play ideas from walking, and and enjoys the constant discovery on every walk.
Robert Voris
Mr. Voris is thought of by his friends as a solid fellow. A transplant from California who landed in Brooklyn eight years ago, he has rarely looked back. Sometimes using the moniker "Freight Train", he has written, cajoled, and sweated his way through a forest of experiences in the pursuit of something he hopes to soon identify. He is a writer of fiction and poetry, and is currently expanding his horizons as a full time student at CUNY graduate school of Journalism. He believes in the truth of shared experience through walking.
Ayano Oride
my day starts and ends with walk. i'm up to sky- watching walking, complete darkness walking, maze walking, backward walking, walk- posture-training- sandal walking, eyes closed walking, hands holding walking, barefoot walking, high- heels walking, costume walking, quiet walking, moon walking, room walking, staircase walking, train walking, train truck walking, sleep walking, alone- group walking, standing walking, micro walking, four- legged walking, upside down walking with support, horizontal walking with help of walls and poles, stilts walking, chaplin walking, under water walking, simple walking to go get something, walking and singing, walking and breathing, walking and eating, walking and seeing, walking and listening, walking and feeling, walking lead by an organism inside
Kyle Nicholas Grousis Henderson
For the first 15 years of life, Kyle didn't have much say in his method of transportation. After a botched laser eye surgery, Kyle was forced to drive his mom around just long enough to realize that he would rather not drive at all. Then, after hours spent waiting for a bus in his native town of Fresno, Kyle took matters into his own hands. Or feet, as it were. Once 255 lbs, now at 190 thanks to 4 hour walks during the subway strike, Kyle hopes that a nice long stroll will help him lose those last 90 meddlesome pounds. Upon his return to the Big Apple from DC, he looks forward to fitting into his elementary school soccer uniform.
Jamie
A vagabond and a poet, Jaime's hero's include: Forrest gump, indigenous folk, and this dude Tommy, who works at the post office in my town. Always in the pursuit of the next long distance walk, Jaime strives to "to be a human who experiences awesome shit." When not digging through the trash for food, she can be found playing spoons, fishing, or starting spontaneous dance parties. Walk. Stop. Dance. Think. That about sums it up.
Dilia Jelen
Dilia Jelen warms the cockles of all hearts around her. A personal trainer by day, Dilia brings an indespensible bodily expertise to the walking crew. Combine that with her dynamic vocal range and intrepid performance talent and the splendor she brings to every walk is unmatcheable. Unbeatable in her jouissance and verve, Dilia creates oodles of psychic joy in her wake. Her very presence makes one want to walk further, harder, longer. Dilia is an inspiration: she doesn't seek it, she lives it.
Robert Bergfeld
Robert, known as Bobert to his big sister, is joining this walk in order to ensure his big sister gets from point A to point B. He was a little concerned when he arrived in New York just days before the walk to DC to find that she was confused about water bottles versus camelpaks. Fortunately, for his sister (Katy), he is joining the crew. The only Eagle scout on the walk, there will be less fear among his fellow walkers knowing there is someone with them who is certified in making fire out of sticks.
